Brynn Hartman (born Vicki Jo Omdahl) was the wife and murderer of comedian Phil Hartman. Born in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, Brynn married on May 20, 1977, to her first husband, Douglas Iver Torfin; the couple divorced. Brynn married comedian Phil Hartman on November 25, 1987, and the couple had two children: Sean (born 1987) and Birgen (born 1992).
Taken too soon.
Phil Hartman was most known for his roles on Saturday Night Live (SNL), which many people speculate that the actor succumbed to the “SNL curse.” Hartman also appeared on the hit television series 3rd Rock from the Sun and also voiced numerous characters on The Simpsons.
Brynn murdered her husband on May 28, 1998, while he was sleeping by shooting him three times with a revolver.
Confessed to a friend.
Brynn then drives to a friend’s house, Ron Douglas, where she fully confesses to the murder. Douglas, not believing her story drove back to the Hartman home, finding the body of Phil Hartman deceased in the master bedroom. Douglas called the police, but by the time they arrived, Brynn had taken her own life by shooting herself through the right eye with a second revolver.
Alcohol, drugs, and divorce.
According to Phil Hartman’s divorce attorney, Steven Small, Brynn’s anger problems may have sparked the murder/suicide. Many sources reported that the couple dealt with alcoholism, cocaine addictions, and stress over the couple’s pending divorce. Some sources said that Brynn was seen as a Hollywood restaurant on a heavy mixture of cocaine, alcohol, and Zoloft.
