UCF Avoided Campus Massacre When James Seevakumaran Shot Himself In Head

Published on December 9, 2021

James Seevakumaran was a 30-year-old, evicted University of Central Florida (UCF) student who planned a campus massacre in the early hours of March 18, 2013. Although no motive is known for the attack, police found a racially charged manifesto in his room along with several explosives. The shooter's plan was never carried out because of his roommate calling 911 and stopping the attack.

I covered the planned UCF shooting of James Seevakumaran because in a recent episode I lay out the triple murder and familicide of Trey Sesler, known as Mr Anime.

And while police believe Sesler knew nothing about James' plans to attack the UCF campus, the two were in contact.

A letter (found here) from Trey arrived to James one day after his planned attack.

Trey Sesler wrote James Seevakumaran a letter that arrived day after his suicide.

These two had obviously been in contact for quite some time since Sesler thanks Seevakumaran for articles that he had sent him.

Mr Anime tells his pen pal about his own struggles, saying, "If someone get's [sic] to that point in life, like I was, you really don't care about what happens anymore." I found society to be a sham, very few will have happy lives, and hard work only goes so far in reality."

Sesler also ask about more meaningless topics such as if Seevakumaran has found a car to buy, and even suggests he look into an older Honda Civic.

Stockpiles

Four IED's lay behind two canisters (ignition source perhaps). Seevakumaran was surely looking for a high casualty count.

Found in James' dorm room was a .45 caliber handgun, 200 rounds of ammunition, and four IEDs laced with "shrapnel".

James also had a American Tactical .22 caliber assault rifle and high-capacity magazines. They found a drum magazine, which was like the one used by James Holmes in Aurora, Colorado.

He purchased the weapons at an Orlando gun shop after he planned his attack 1 month prior.

Give em' Hell

They also discovered a manifesto in the madman's room (found here). The 3-page rambling document follows a fictional "Damien", which is obviously James, as he navigates his way through the campus during the future shooting.

The manifesto is racially charged and full of supremacist hate. His manifesto ends with the words, "give em' hell."

There was also a sticky note found (above photo) that simply stated, "HATE IS THE KEY".

Ruined Plan

Police called Aribo Babakhani, UCF student and roommate of shooter, a hero. Babakhani stopped the massacre due to his quick thinking and his 911 call to police.

If things would have gone exactly as James Seevakumaran had planned, there would have been mass casualties.

UCF Police Chief Richard Beary stated during a press conference, "anybody armed with this type of weapon could have hurt a lot of people there, particularly in a crowded area as people were evacuating. "It could have been a very bad day."

Fortunately, Seevakumaran's plans of getting drunk at a local bar, pulling the campus fire alarm, and then shooting students was thwarted by his roommate, Arabo "BK" Babakhani.

Babakhani heard the fire alarm and thought something was "burning on the stove." He opened the door and saw his roommate point an assault rifle directly at him.

"I didn't stop and look. I slammed the door in his face so he couldn't harm me. I crouched in front of my chest in case he fired into a wall."

There is no doubt that others would have been shot and killed if Babakhani didn't act as quickly as he did.

Evicted

James Seevakumaran attended UCF between 2010 and 2012, but at the time of his suicide, they had already evicted him.

In a show of "compassion", UCF allowed Seevakumaran to stay on campus, at least until he found an alternative. They said they were "lenient when it came to students that had no where to go."

Seevakumaran was a loner and was never seen with friends or family members nearby. His roommate told KnightNews that, "For the most part if you said anything to him he would ignore you. He would stare off in the distance and pretend like you didn't exist. But he made eye contact with me when he pulled the gun on me. That was the best eye contact I ever had with him. He looked me dead in the eye and raised the gun," Babakhani.

In the police body cam footage before the suicide, police enter the shooter's dorm room and find him deceased on the floor.

He had shot himself in the head as they were entering.

  1. The four Stars on the Chief's collar was probably there Just to stroke his ego. Campus police departments are made up of two types of cops, brand new who Just want to get into profession or retired officers , who feel to old to police in a busy municipality, but still feel they have something to contribute. Like most policing it's 95& boring and 5& sheer terror. Being a campus officer is highly stressful, every choice you make is subject to analysis by officers supervisor, the administration, the student body and everyone else who feels they have a voice. The show is talk murder, yet no murder. I now have "murder" blue balls. Thanks

    1. Probably my least favorite episode to be honest. I wanted to tie the two stories together, so I did that. Next stop, Satan's Den.

    1. Yup, who should read the message? Should there be music? So much potential for the complete audio experience!

      1. If ANYONE other then Nicole reads the welcoming message, my Year will be ruined, my disappointment will be immeasurable and I may very well remove all my hand drawn" talk murder to me" posters off my wall... It's that serious... Lol... 🙂

  2. Such a brave roommate. Will you do an update on the Delphi murders? I hope the new info breaks the case.

    1. Chanel, I agree. Yeah I will for the next episode! Geez I haven't thought about that case in forever. Have they really gotten no closer to a resolution yet? I think at one point they had a 'person of interest', but don't hold me to that.

  3. What the hell is wrong with all of these teenage/college age kids doing things like this!? I went to school with a kid who became a conspiracy theorist/ drug addict (which i suppose are not a good combo) he thought his grandparents who took care of him his whole life were conspiring against him because they wouldn’t give him money for drugs.. he went to their house and stabbed them to death and then went and hid in the woods until the police caught him. Almost goes back to the XXX cam girl episode.

Way more people these days, starting from young ages I think need more mental heath counseling. Seems like this is happening more and more which is so sad.

Cant wait to see what this pandemic does to people like this… NOT!

  4. Great story as always yall. Thank God for the roommate otherwise this could have been 10000000x more tragic.

    Hope I win lol!

  5. Falicia Blakely case recommendation, it has sex, killings. A movie was made about her, but I never heard of the case, until recently. I guess fox news didn't cover it (but I am sure B.
E.T. did) You might want to cover it Just for diversity points, plus a female serial killer might intrigue your female audience.

  6. This comment has nothing to do with this episode but have you seen that documentary on Neflix about the yellow raincoat killer in S.Korea? I think it is called the raincoat killer. Was just wondering 🙂

  7. The Happy Face Killers.

Not Keith Jespersen. There were more than 40 attractive, young college men murdered and kept alive for weeks, then left in bodies of water. Where the bodies were found was near a spray painted happy face. Yahoo has a 2 part crime doc on it.

Give Mrs. Perry a big 'ole hug from her biggest fan and name "twinner"??? Dunno if that's a word but you get the idea

  8. I hope the roommate got a commendation from the local police force!
All the school shootings make me thankful we have strict gun laws in the UK!

    1. Doesn't the united kingdom currently have a stabbing/ knife problem? We do not need more gun laws in the USA, we need harsher sentences concerning gun crimes,

      1. Yes stabbings and knife crime is a daily occurrence over here :/
Yeah the laws and sentences the US have baffle me especially with teenagers able to buy and use a gun!
