  • at 12:31 AM neighbors hear two gunshot in succession; the second being louder
  • Barron County Sheriff’s Dept receives 911 at 12:53 AM from Denise Closs’ cellphone
    • dispatchers could not make contact & only heard “a lot of yelling” and someone possible screaming “help”
  • at 1 AM deputies respond to the home 1271 US-8 Barron, Wisconsin where they found two adults dead inside  (Street View)

Oct. 17

  • autopsies conducted show victims died of gunshot wounds; ruled death as homicide
  • official believe Jayme was taken from her home at gunpoint
  • at 3:30 PM a nationwide Amber Alert was sent out
    • Jayme Closs, 5-feet tall, 100 pounds, blonde or strawberry blonde hair

Jan. 8th, 2019 (88th day of captivity)

  • In a remote cabin outside of Gordon, WI (70 miles away from Jayme’s home), Jayme crawled out from under the bed where she was confined
    • her abducter was not in the home
    • Jayme put on his shoes and without a coat went out into the cold snowy winter
  • Jayme runs to Jeanee Nutter’s home and Nutter places 911 call

“I just held onto her and I said, ‘We’re going to find somebody who’s home, we’re going to call the police. You’re going to be okay, you’re going to be safe, you’re going to be fine,’” she assured the teen. Racing to a nearby front door, she knocked frantically at the home of neighbors Kristin and Peter Kasinskas, announcing after the door opened, “This is Jayme Closs! Call 911!”

The crime scene

  • the scene was described to the media as “violent”
    • James Closs was found deceased by the front door of his home
    • Denise was found deceased in the home
  • Jayme’s dog Molly was found alive

  • Wipe down shotgun (located at his house)
    • Patterson says so “No DNA or evidence could be found”
  • Shaved his face and hair
    • Took shower
  • Made decision to shoot anyone in the home including children
  • He indictated if he was stopped by police he would of shot them with 3 bullets he had remaining
  • Kept the bullets at his house in case cops came
  • Remained in hiding for 88 days

  • woman who briefly took in Jayme after her escape had been Patterson’s middle school science teacher
